Volunteer with the COA

Overview

The Wellesley Council on Aging (COA) provides opportunities for individuals of all ages to volunteer. By assisting with our comprehensive programs and services, our volunteers inspire a spirit of community across the generations in our town. Volunteers are essential to our day-to-day functioning, and the success of our organization is due largely in part to the contributions made by our volunteers. A few of our ongoing volunteer opportunities are listed below.

Volunteer Opportunities

Lunch Program

The Council on Aging serves lunch to senior citizens five days a week—Mondays to Fridays from noon to 1:00 p.m. By giving less than two hours of your time (11:30 a.m. to approximately 1:15 p.m.), you can make a difference to our daily lunch group. You will not only have the satisfaction of helping others, but you will also learn from and be entertained by our luncheon guests on a variety of subjects!

Prepared meals are delivered to the Council on Aging from a local restaurant; volunteers are not responsible for meal preparation. We rely on two types of lunch volunteers: volunteer servers and volunteer cashiers. The responsibilities for the servers include setting up, serving, doing a light clean-up, and interacting with guests. The responsibilities for the cashiers include collecting $4.00 per guest as seniors enter the dining space (the cost of the lunch is subsidized for the seniors by the Friends of the Wellesley Council on Aging).

Drivers

Volunteer drivers are needed to help Wellesley senior citizens get to various destinations in and around Wellesley (non-medical and medical rides). This is an incredibly meaningful and flexible volunteer opportunity. Drivers provide rides based on their availability--it is not necessary to commit to a regular schedule. Please email [email protected] or call 781-235-3046, Jill or Judy, Transportation Coordinators for more information on this volunteer opportunity.

Special Events

Special events are held once or twice a month, and volunteers are always needed to decorate, set up, serve refreshments, and clean up when the event is over.

Teachers & Activity Leaders

The Wellesley Council on Aging is always looking to expand the social, recreational, and educational programs that we offer. We can do this by utilizing the many varied talents of volunteers. Can you teach a language class, give a presentation on an interesting topic that would appeal to seniors, or teach seniors how to make jewelry? These are just some examples, and the possibilities are endless! Tell us what your talents are and how you would like to share them with Wellesley seniors!

Musicians Wanted!

We are always seeking musician(s) to perform on a volunteer basis at social events. Our community loves to hear all types of music--instrumental or vocal, classical or jazz . . . give us a call!
