The Wellesley Police Department is pleased to announce the arrival of our new uniform shirts which went into service on August 15. The shirts are dark blue, and feature a modified Wellesley Police patch. Although similar to the old patch, the new patch has darker colors to blend with the shirt. Officers are also wearing new collar brass and rank insignia.
The new shirts were designed by Chief Cunningham and Deputy Chief Pilecki after an extensive research phase. The Chief and Deputy Chief looked at several different shirts with varying colors and weights, ultimately deciding on the dark blue. These shirts are the same type and manufacture worn by members of the Los Angeles Police Department. The shirts were specifically designed for the day to day rigors of law enforcement. They are comfortable, durable, and breathable for the officers wearing them.
Other area law enforcement agencies have also switched to this particular shirt after conducting similar tests that Wellesley performed. Wellesley officers are now in line with other municipal law enforcement agencies who wear dark blue shirts. This presents a much more uniform appearance during multi-jurisdictional operations. The new shirts replace the French blue shirts worn by the department since the late 1990’s.
