Wellesley Firefighters at the scene.Just after 4:30 PM on July 19, 2010 Dispatchers Therese Sheehan and Bobby Rowe received a fire alarm in the Wellesley Police Dispatch Center from 70 Walnut Street.  The Wellesley Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, as well as Wellesley Police Officer Tim Dennehy.  When Officer Dennehy arrived on the scene, he noticed smoke coming from the basement windows. The building was vacant at the time, and is used as an office building.

Members of the Wellesley Fire Department went immediately to work, seeking the source of the smoke.  While the fire department investigated the basement, Officer Dennehy, Officer Poirier, and Officer Farwell directed traffic and pedestrians away from the scene.  Eventually, two alarms would be sounded for the incident, bringing in assistance from the Weston and Newton fire departments.

There were no injuries at the fire, which was quickly brought under control.
